On the 10th of September, we drove to Leon, capital of Castille, and
checked into the Parador
de Leon (Parador San Marcos). The Paradores were monasteries built
by the church (funded by the monarchy) to provide lodging for the pilgrims
on the Camino de Santiago. Today the San Marcos is a five-star luxury
hotel, but still reserves some room and board for pilgrims free of charge.
