On the morning of the 15th of September, Carlos met us at the Carlton and we drove down to to Iruña, Navarra, the capital of Navarra. Many of you will know this city by the name of Pamplona, the site of the festival of San Fermín, known for the Running of the Bulls. Then we headed back northward toward San Sebastián (Donostia) and stopped on the way to see the ancestral home of the Erazo family, Eraso, in the picturesque Valle de la Ultzama. We stopped in Lekumberri for lunch, drove through Tolosa in Gipuzkoa (Guipúzkoa), and then detoured back into the mountains to visit the village of Beizama, home of the Otaegui (Otegi) family. Driving through the mountains of the Basque countryside in our van was an unforgettable experience. The roads are excellent, well-maintained with smooth, well-marked asphalt surfaces and good signage. However, they are narrow, technically single-lane, althoughbarely wide enough for opposite traffic to get by if the vehicles are narrow. Finally, after a long day, we arrived in San Sebastián.
