Southern California MINI owners assembled for their second scenic
drive in San Diego County on February 1, 2003, at the Pala Casino in the beautiful Pauma
Valley. Once again organized by John Dumlao ("Johnny Ceviche"), this event was
attended by almost twice the number of MINIs as the first drive
two months earilier along the coast. Believe it or not, the weather was
just as perfect as the first drive, even though we are in the middle of winter. Our route
took us up the mountains into the Cleveland National Forest to Palomar Mountain; down the
grade to Lake Henshaw; across Mesa Grande; through Santa Ysabel and Julian; back to the
Pauma Vally via La Jolla Amago; and into Rincon for lunch at Harrah's casino. There was
practically no traffic (aside from the two-wheeled variety) to prevent us from extracting
maximum pleasure from the twisty grade roads. |
