One advantage of living in San Diego is being close to friends we have known for many
years from the Navy. Glenn and Kerry Wernz are friends from VP-48 days since 1984,
continuing through a subsequent Washington D.C. tour, and here in California. Glenn is
from Rick's home town and is a source of Cincinnati recipes. Kerry is a Southern
California native of Finnish extraction, which means she is a wonderful person. Here we're
giving Kerry's son's new spa and pool an operational test and evaluation.

Another advantage of living in San Diego is the opportunity to meet officers in the
Chilean navy and their families, who serve tours here as exchange officers to the U.S.
Third Fleet.
This is Lieut. Mauricio Arenas and his wife Claudia Campaña. They had only
been married a few months when they arrived. Mauricio served aboard a U.S. destroyer for a
year, and that short time earned qualification as a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and is
proudly wearing his pin (pictured here) on his Chilean naval uniform. They returned to
Chile in January.
